Feature: The MY25 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD
For three seasons, official towing partner GM Specialty Vehicles supported our Tough Tested initiative with a steady supply of tow-ready Silverados to blaze the trails.
Updated 2025 Exterior Styling and Colours
The new grand-daddy of the range, the MY25 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, the turbo-diesel variant, is rolling into GMSV dealerships Australia-wide ready for your own adventures in a choice of six exterior colours (up from 4 in 2024) on an evolving exterior.
Cypress Grey, Radiant Red, Sterling Grey Metallic, Summit White, Lakeshore Blue and Black round out the 2025 palette alongside front and rear bumpers now finished in black, new red recovery hooks and black high gloss alloy on the 20in rims topped with black centre caps.

MY25 Silverado 2500 HD: Engine Specs and Towing Capacity
The new look Big Tow leverages the proven reliability of its 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel engine that was optimised in the MY24 release to give 350kW of power and 1322Nm of max torque. That supports the powerful 4.5-tonne braked towing capacity available on a standard license (where the vehicle’s loaded weight and limits on the coupling, GCM and rear-axle allow). This, together with the trailer-equipped Adaptive Cruise Control, General Motors’ In-Vehicle Trailering App with Trailer Profiles and its large vertical power-adjustable towing mirrors create a successful towing platform for the luxury caravanner.

Advanced Towing Technology and Safety Features
Indeed, standard on the MY25 Silverado 2500 HD, there’s a 12-pin wiring harness and towbar, ready for you to fit a compatible tongue and coupling of your choice. Trailer-specific safety initiatives also include a Trailer Theft Alert, Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert and the Gross Combined Mass Alert (GCMA) warning, introduced in 2024.
Other niceties improving safety under tow or while heavily laden include Hill Start Assist, Cruise Grade Braking that optimises engine braking on a slight decline to preserve your brakes and Automatic Locking Differential, boosting stability at low speeds during rear wheel slippage-teaming sweetly with the 10-gear Allison Gearbox that’s big on low gear torque.

A Real-World Performance: An Australian Owner’s Perspective
Miriam Mace of Aussie Destinations Unknown shared her experience with the 2024 model. “Paired with our Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, it’s a touring setup we trust. Built to tow, spacious, comfortable, safe, with exhaust braking and a planted feel,” she said.
“The trailering app is great and the GM accessory camera feeds directly into the infotainment system from the rear of the van, while the Duramax/Allison combo is bulletproof! “
