Mundi Mundi Bash: Fun Raising Funds
Got a hankering for good music, camping and unforgettable sunsets? Here’s the outback event that shatters all the records!
If there’s one thing us Aussies know how to do, it’s throwing a bash—and the Mundi Mundi Bash is no exception. Picture this: the iconic Mundi Mundi Plains of the vast NSW outback stretching out to the horizon, the red dust underfoot, and thousands of festival-goers embracing the outback spirit with open arms and wild imaginations. Yep, it’s that time of year when the outback turns into the ultimate playground for music lovers, camping enthusiasts, charity champions, and costume buffs alike.
THE MUNDI UNDIE RUN
The fun kicked off with the Mundi Undi Run, a quirky charity event that has become a beloved staple of the festival. This year, 1,960 brave souls donned their most outrageous undies—think mankinis, morphsuits, and even T-rex costumes—to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). The creativity on display was nothing short of legendary, and the participants didn’t just stop at entertaining the crowd; they smashed last year’s record of 1,500 participants and raised a whopping $68,600 for the RFDS. Now that’s what I call running for a good cause!
Festival Founder and Managing Director, Greg Donovan, couldn’t hide his admiration for the undie-clad runners. “Year after year, I’m blown away by the creativity and dedication of our Bashers. Whether they’re donning Superman speedos or grannie undies, it’s all for a great cause,” he said with a grin. “The RFDS is a lifeline for those in the outback, and it’s heartening to see our community come together to support such an essential service.”
SMASHING RECORDS
But the Mundi Mundi Bash isn’t just about undie runs. Oh no, this festival knows how to make history. Take the Big Blue Day, for instance—an event that saw a staggering 7,243 festival-goers decked out in blue from head to toe, setting a new world record for the largest human image of a country. The previous record of 5,467 set by the Big Red Bash was left in the dust, and all for a good cause, raising $115,888 for Beyond Blue. Talk about making a difference while having a blast! As Greg Donovan put it, “It’s absolutely incredible to see 14,000 people out here on the Mundi Mundi Plains—the biggest Bash yet! Beyond Blue’s work is so important, and to have this level of support from our community is both humbling and inspiring.”
And the records didn’t stop there. The Freeze Frame Dance saw 6,248 festival-goers breaking yet another world record, and while the bootscooters at the Nutbush Dance didn’t quite hit the mark this year, they still managed to raise an impressive $97,725 for the RFDS.
THE FUN CONTINTUES…
The festival wasn’t all about breaking records, though. From Mad Max dress-up characters to Doggie Dress Up Day, the Mundi Mundi Bash offered plenty of family-friendly fun. Imagine 298 War Boys, Feral Kids, and Max Rockatanskys gathering on the very spot where Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was filmed. Or picture dogs in dungarees and canines in crowns strutting their stuff for the crowd—because who says the outback can’t have a bit of glitz and glamour?
Add in scenic helicopter rides, sunrise yoga sessions, and even a spot of Dunny Door Painting, and you’ve got yourself a festival that truly has something for everyone.
WORLD RENOWED MUSICIANS
THE LINE UP
The Mundi Mundi Bash isn’t just about world records, quirky events, and outback camaraderie—it’s also a music lover’s dream come true. This year, over 14,000 fans, campers, and adventure seekers flocked to the festival’s mainstage, ready to soak in the tunes and dance the night away under the vast outback sky. And let me tell you, the lineup didn’t disappoint.
BRAITHWAITE AND MOSSY – YOU CAN’T GO WRONG!
Daryl Braithwaite, a name synonymous with iconic anthems, took to the stage and delivered a performance that was pure magic. When the opening chords of “The Horses” filled the air, the crowd erupted into a massive sing-along.
Ian Moss, another titan of Australian rock, brought his signature blend of blues and rock to the outback stage. The former Cold Chisel guitarist didn’t miss a beat, delivering hits like “Tucker’s Daughter” with the same intensity and soul that has defined his career. Moss’s guitar work was, as always, nothing short of spectacular, and his vocals were as strong and emotive as ever.
THE AWESOMENESS CONTINUES…
Vanessa Amorosi, whose dynamic set had everyone buzzing from the get-go belted out her biggest hits like the anthemic “Absolutely Everybody” and the soul-stirring “Shine,” Amorosi’s infectious energy and powerhouse vocals soared across the sweeping plains. Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more electric, the Baby Animals took to the stage and cranked up the rock ‘n’ roll dial. The one and only Jon Stevens also made appearance, an Aussie legend with one of the most powerful voices in the business. Stevens took us all on a nostalgic trip down memory lane, belting out classics from his days with Noiseworks and INXS. The Tina Tribute had festival-goers on their feet, dancing and singing their hearts out, too.
WHAT A LINE UP!
But the magic didn’t stop there. The crowd was treated to an all-star lineup that showcased some of the best talent Australia has to offer. Fanny Lumsden, Hayley Mary’s, Sarah McLeod, and let’s not forget Chocolate Starfish, whose energy-packed set had the crowd jumping and singing along to every song. And just when you thought the day couldn’t get any better, along came Ash Grunwald with his bluesy grooves, Richard Clapton delivering his iconic hits, Diesel shredding the guitar like only he can, and Tim Finn bringing his legendary songwriting to life. Rolling Stones Revue paid homage to the rock gods themselves, while James Reyne and Bjorn Again kept the crowd dancing well into the night.
Rounding out the incredible lineup at the Mundi Mundi Bash was none other than The Living End, and let me tell you, they were nothing short of awesome. Known for their high-energy performances and infectious punk rock anthems, The Living End took the stage by storm and delivered a set that left everyone buzzing.
OVER AND OUT
So, here’s to the Mundi Mundi Bash—a celebration of music, community, and everything that makes the outback the heart and soul of Australia. Whether you’re there to dance, donate, or simply soak in the atmosphere, there’s no place quite like it. Until next year, keep the spirit of the outback alive and kicking!
