Long Bunks
The model up for grabs here sports a 20ft 10in layout with a queen-size innerspring main and twin bunks, with an optional pillow-top. And from a family perspective, Essential got a lot right. The 1.88m long single bunks are a smart use of space that will suit many families well into teenagehood. There’s a storage pocket, 12V lighting and outlets on the bunks. Everyone gets individual drawers for privacy and there’s a concertina door dividing the living spaces. There are also wardrobes for the little ones here.
Bedside Nooks
Towards the front the north-south bed is shrouded in cabinetry, an inset padded bedhead with targeted reading lights, plus private nooks serving as bedside tables for books or technology either side into individual robes. Reverse Cycle IBIS 4 air-conditioning provides a real handle on climate control at powered camps. Though finishing touches, like well-placed 12V & 240V points, filtration at the sink and seen here, two optional strategically-placed Sirocco fans, enhance comfort wherever you are. 12V power-wise you get a 100Ah battery and 195W solar managed, with a lithium-ready BMPRO system with the Odyssey link that’s Bluetooth controlled. Twin 95L tanks and twin 9kg gas cylinders round-out the off-grid spec. Our lucky winner will also receive the optional 95L grey water tank.
Bug Lighting
In the kitchen-dining area you’ll find an L-shape lounge, accommodating four or five sets of legs, and a large three-way fridge-freezer opposite for fewer stops in town. Ample lighting and an easy-to-clean Perspex splashback simplify family meals. There’s also a slide-out pantry, large deep drawers on smooth runners, and an oven and four-hob cooktop concealed beneath the bench-top. Opposite the kitchen there is even a floor to ceiling pantry/linen cupboard with shelves. Outdoors, gas lines facilitate barbecuing with room for a portable cooktop in the tunnel boot. In fact, it’s a lovely space outdoors with speakers, bug lighting, a large external galvanised-lined storage compartment fit for outdoor gear such as a generator or camping chairs, drop down picnic table and a TV, power and antenna point rounding out the comforts under the awning.
There’s even a protected tap on the a-frame for muddy feet.
Twin Axle Ease
Fitted with a convenient 50mm ball hitch coupling, the C-Class Signature is no off-roader. That said, it manages itself well enough for short trips on graded dirt and gravel–suitable for many popular national park camps. Indeed, twin axles keep things comfortable, withstanding the occasional bump courtesy of the suitably-rated leaf springs and 15in AT tyres. The tanks are also shrouded and there’s checker-plate front and side protection below the tough composite walls. Other driving comforts include a reversing camera and BMPRO anti sway system.
All up, the Essential C-Class Signature is extremely classy offering plenty of family comforts indoor and out for a competitive price at just under $86k.
