Canterbury Caravans was Established in 1995 while being the Sole Regent Dealer at the time. Colin Tobin at the time was sales Manager for the dealer accross the road by the name of Oasis Caravans. In 1997 Colin & Pam Tobin made the decision to purchase the Business Canterbury caravans.

The take over was not easy as the Business was not making any money and at the time the keys were to be handed over to Colin & Pam , Colin was also dealing with the passing of his Father. Colins Father Kevin had intorduced Colin into the industry as a very young boy in the family business and later to be the Rosebud caravan park.

It was Colins Love & Passion for the industry that saw him make the leap of faith to purchase Canterbury Caravans with the love and support of his wife Pam at the time.

Canterbury didn’t have much to its name when first taken over however Colin and Co had a vision to build this business to a one stop shop for Australians all over the country. Over the years the business grew where by a work shop was installed, the office was refurbished and additional staff were hired.

In early 2000 the falling over of one of the industries great names Regent Caravans Colin & team were left without a major brand and hence where Paramount caravans was formed. It was with Colin Tobins experience & knowledge that the Paramount Brand was put on the map. Within the first 60 days of business the Paramount brand through paramounts build quality & Canterbury caravans expertise and input that over 60 caravans were sold. They then went on to have one of our largest caravans shows where in excess of 80 caravans were sold.

Both Colin & Pam have been very supportive of their staff over the years and have found to have had a minimal change over of staff as the working conditions are very fair & reasonable. This same approach has also been adopted to the way they treat their customers. Canterbury caravans has always been and will remain a fair an ethical business towards customer service and placing the customer at the fore front. It is with our customers & our repeat business that keeps us here & ultimately we have our customers to thank for our success through their support.

In later years the Business had seen his Daughter Laura follow in the family foot step’s where by Laura had opened up a fully functional spare parts & accessory shop. This completed the package of the 1 stop shop and the vision that was started all those years ago.

One great story that has evolved through the vision and generosity of the Tobin family is 2 of the 3 manager positions now held at Canterbury caravans. It was through a simple Yard position that Mal Sadler back in early 2000 that applied to become a washer boy. It was not long before they seen the potential Mal had to offer so without any further doubt Mal was appointed as the work shop manager. The experience Mal has bought to the team had enable Canterbury to provide quality & professional service to all of our customers.

It was years later after a long trip overseas that Mals son Ian Sadler also become a washer boy in the Canterbury business. A position that he honestly told his father to never apply for in the first place. Ian has grown through the business from washing caravans, repairing & servicing caravans to then selling caravans.

Ian had taken a break from the business for several years before Colin & Pam had offered him a position back as the Sales Manager / GM of the Canterbury business at the age of 29. It was not long before Ian was awarded young achiever of the year as a result of being one of the industries youngest salemanagers. It is through the support of Colin & Pam and the potential they saw that made this happen.

Not long after all of this Colin had then appointed Laura his daughter as the office/accounts managers where by she was to run the heart of the business along side Ian sales Manager for the future and next generation of us going forward.

The full Canterbury caravans team are loyal & honest staff. Our team has been formed over the years and with our core staff Like Mal Sadler, Jan Calder, Keith Smith, Ian Sadler, Laura Altinay, Colin & Pam Tobin. Our experience and love of the Industry means our customers will get the full level of service you would expect from a professional company. Our goal is very simple. Help provide hard working Australians with the ability to live out their dreams of caravanning, holidaying & enjoying all those family fond memories that camping will bring.
